It goes well with pathiri, any sort of rice variants ( ghee rice, pulao, normal rice) and any Indian bread. It is an easy peasy recipe for Kerala Chicken Curry

Ingredients

Serves : 5
  • Chicken - 700g


  • Onion – 2 medium (thinly sliced)


  • Green chilly - 6 (Slit open)


  • Ginger – 1 big piece (Crushed)


  • Garlic – 7 big cloves (Crushed)


  • Tomato – 1 big


  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 tablespoon


  • Coriander powder - 11/2 tablespoon


  • Red chilly powder - 11/2 tablespoon


  • Garam masala - 1/2 tablespoon


  • Pepper powder - 1/4 tablespoon


  • Curry leaves - 1 as needed


  • Salt - 1 as needed


  • Coconut Oil - 1 as needed

Directions

  • Heat oil in a pan. Add thinly sliced onion, green chilly, crushed garlic and ginger and curry leaves.
  • Once the onion starts to turn golden, reduce the flame and add turmeric powder, coriander powder and red chilly powder.
  • When the raw smell of masala is gone, add tomato and some water and salt.
  • Cover and cook tomatoes till they are done, on low flame.
  • Add chicken and 1.5 cup water.
  • Increase the flame. Cook covered and bring the curry to boil.
  • Once it boils, add garam masala and pepper powder.
  • Cook covered on medium flame till the chicken is cooked.
